Current Projects

Ivo Stranic is currently working on characterizing the dielectrophoretic (DEP) response of particles and bacteria in a variety of solutions. By improving the understanding of the DEP response of bacteria, we hope to develop cheap and fast bacteria separation techniques using microfluidic channels. This would enable scientists to efficiently screen Mycobacterium tuberculosis mutations and therefore help develop better cures.

Past Projects

Ivo Stranic previously worked on characterizing surface properties of several materials primarily by measuring their zeta potential at different pH levels. Zeta potential has broad impact, ranging from electric field manipulation of particles to the stability of colloids to flocculation techniques for removing particles from suspensions.

Ivo's project was in close collaboration with Optimax Systems, because the zeta potential of surfaces and particles has been shown to affect optical machining processes. By measuring the zeta potential of optical surfaces as well as particles used in optical machining, we hoped to develop a model-based framework for optimizing optical machining processes.
