Sowmya Kondapalli currently works on the development and evaluation of pathogen concentrators and microbiosensors for on-site environmental water sampling.

She has also worked on developing a microfluidic chip which automates combinatorial processes like protein refolding and bioconjugate synthesis.

Biography

Sowmya Kondapalli joined the Micro/Nanofluidics Laboratory in August of 2005. Sowmya completed her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras, India. As a part of her senior year project, she worked on building a Joule Thomson cryocooler, used for storing biological specimens, which can reach cryogenic temperatures as low as 100K.

Current Projects

Current projects include the fabrication of a nanoporous membrane in glass microchannels using in-situ photopolymerization techniques and integrating this concentration module with a microbiosensor on a single platform.

Honors and Awards

Received the award for the best  senior year project in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras in 2005.

Education

M.S. 2008 - Cornell University, Mechanical Engineering

B.Tech. 2005 - Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India, Mechanical Engineering
