Appendix G
Complex Functions

We use complex functions throughout this text to facilitate calculations involving harmonic functions owing to the relatively simple mathematics of complex exponentials, for example in Chapter 3. Also, when complex variables denote distance in a 2D plane, complex velocity potentials automatically solve the Laplace equation—this is employed in Chapter 7. This appendix summarizes basic properties and manipulation of complex variables.
